Agriculture & Forestry
Calcium carbonate, quicklime, and dolomite are suited to a wide variety of agricultural applications, including pH control, fertilizer conditioners and fillers, and animal feed formulations. Landscape and recreation uses include decorative stone for landscaping, golf course applications, and athletic-field line marking. Calcium carbonate, the chief component of limestone, is a widely used amendment to neutralize soil acidity and to supply calcium (Ca) for plant nutrition. Additions of ag lime also supply valuable Ca (and possibly Mg) for plant nutrition. Some secondary benefits of neutralizing soil acidity with lime include:
- Increased phosphorus (P) availability;
- Improved nitrogen (N) fixation by legumes;
- Enhanced N mineralization and nitrification; and
- A healthier root system improves plant performance, water use, and nutrient recovery.
Fertilizer
Just as humans need essential minerals and nutrients for strong, healthy growth, so do the world's crops. And fertilizers are food for plants. Fertilizers replace the nutrients that crops remove from the soil. Without the addition of fertilizers, crop yields and agricultural productivity would be significantly reduced.
Calcium, magnesium, and sulfur are secondary nutrients needed by all plants for plant structure and energy generation. Deficiency in any of these three nutrients has an impact on crop yield and quality. Therefore, they are the main parameters in most categories of fertilizers.
Dolomite, Calcium Carbonate, Kaolin, etc. are important additives used as raw materials to supplement the content of Mg2+ (MgO) and Ca2+ (CaO) for fertilizer production. Animal Feed

Ground calcium carbonate (GCC) powder, limestone, and Dicalcium Phosphate (DCP) are widely used in the livestock industry, with applications as feed powders for animals.
GCC powder is used in most animal foods, such as shrimp, fish, chicken, pig, etc., to make a heavier weight as well as increase calcium content, helping animals absorb nutrients better. For example, GCC is essential for egg formation and bone growth in poultry, or DCP supplements minerals like calcium and phosphorus in animals and fishery feed.
